The phasing of the course of change depends on the nature of the change.
As soon as the change becomes more drastic (triangle), the importance of ‘alignment’ increases. In practice, we often see companies starting off with ‘Act’. There is nothing wrong with that in itself, but experience shows that this has merely a sensitising effect. Sooner or later, the order ‘Align-Translate- Act- Monitor’ forces its way through.
In situations of continuous change (circle) ‘doing’ and ‘monitoring’ are appropriate. There is constant motion within such courses of change.
For that reason, it is particularly important to keep a close eye on whether things evolve in the right direction.
